Xiaomi slashes smartphone prices; Redmi Note 5 Pro, Mi A2

Xiaomi today announced that it has cut the prices of Mi A2, Redmi Note 5 Pro and Redmi Y2 permanently

. This announcement comes after Xiaomi recently increased the prices of its phones, power bank and TVs, reasoning the increase with depreciation in the value of Indian Rupee against the US Dollar.

According to today’s announcement, the Xiaomi Mi A2, Redmi Note 5 Pro and Redmi Y2 have all received a price cut of ₹1,000 each. This price cut is permanent and applicable across all variants of these phones.

To recall, Xiaomi recently hiked prices of the Redmi 6A, Redmi 6, Mi Power Bank 2i and the Mi TV 4A and 4C Pro series. Xiaomi blamed depreciation in the value of Indian Rupee by almost 15%, forcing it to increase prices.

According to Xiaomi, this permanent price cut has been announced to celebrate the fact that the company has been the top smartphone brand for 5 quarters in a row according to the latest IDC report. However, this could also be due to the fact that these phones are no longer in high demand, essentially forcing Xiaomi to reduce prices.

Additionally, Xiaomi is also all set to launch the Redmi Note 6 Pro in India on November 22, featuring dual cameras on the front as well as the back, in addition to a notch similar to that of the Poco F1. However, this could also be due to the fact that these phones are no longer in high demand, essentially forcing Xiaomi to reduce prices.

Here are the updated prices of the three Xiaomi smartphones, effective immediately.

  • Xiaomi Mi A2 – 4GB + 64GB – ₹15,999
  • Xiaomi Mi A2 – 6GB + 128GB – ₹18,999
  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro – 4GB + 64GB – ₹13,999
  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro – 6GB + 64GB – ₹15,999
  • Xiaomi Redmi Y2 – 4GB + 64GB – ₹11,999

Xiaomi has also announced that it has one more important piece of news to reveal on November 19.
