Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro with quad cameras, notch display launched

With the huge success of the Redmi Note 5 Pro, Xiaomi aims to make an even bigger impact on the sub ₹20,000 phone market.

The Redmi Note 6 Pro has been launched in India for a price of ₹13,999 and it is the first phone by the company to sport a quad camera set up. Yes, you read that right- quad cameras.

Xiaomi aims to keep a strong foothold on the budget smartphone market and the specifications of the phone suggest that it will be successful in doing so. In India, the phone will be available in two variants with 4GB and 6GB RAM.

Launch Details

Manu Jain, Xiaomi’s India Chief kicked off the launch event and went on to explain the success of the previous Redmi phones like the Note 5 Pro. According to IDC reports, Xiaomi has been the leader in the Indian smartphone industry for the past five quarters. Additionally, Xiaomi’s offline sales also took a 40 percent leap last year, making the company’s position more concrete. To do so, the company launched over 500 Mi stores all over the country, especially in rural areas.

The launch event for the successor to the well-received Redmi Note 5 Pro took place in New Delhi. The Redmi Note 6 houses a quad camera setup – two at the front, two at the back, a revamped notch design and uses the latest software from Xiaomi.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro Specifications

The first major change with the Redmi Note 6 Pro is display – it sports a 6.26-inch full-HD+ IPS LCD full screen panel with a 19:9 aspect ratio, with a fairly big notch on top. Xiaomi has housed the two front cameras, ear piece, ambient light sensor and the notification LED in the notch.

The Redmi Note 6 Pro has a Snapdragon 636 processor that is paired with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

In the camera department, Redmi Note 6 Pro sports a dual rear camera setup with a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor with Dual Pixel autofocus, and AI portrait 2.0. On the front, the smartphone bears another dual camera setup with a 20-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor, coupled with AI face unlock capabilities.

There is a 4,000mAh battery under the hood that is claimed to last up to 2 days on single full charge. Connectivity features include dual SIM, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FM Radio and GPS.

Price and availability

The Redmi Note 6 Pro launches in India today and the price is expected to be around ₹13,999 for the 4GB variant and ₹15,999 for the 6GB variant. The phone will be available via the Mi India online store and on Flipkart, starting Friday. It will be available in four colours – Black, Rose Gold, Blue and Red.

Additionally, as a part of its Black Friday Sale tomorrow, Xiaomi will be offering a discount of ₹1,000 on both the variants, in addition to a discount of ₹500 on HDFC Bank debit and credit cards. Essentially, you can purchase the Redmi Note 6 Pro for as low as ₹12,499 after a total discount of ₹1,500.
