Tribute to 2 Yoga Maestros on Yoga Day.

On this 1st International Yoga Day, a tribute to 2 foremost and world renowned Yoga teachers, Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya and Sri B K S Iyengar. Both these men lived their lives to preach Yoga by heart and make the world know the true powers of Human body that could be achieved practicing Yoga.

The Father of Modern Day Yoga. Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya lived for 100 years. An Ayurvedic Healer along with a life fully dedicated towards preaching Yoga. Krishnamacharya is widely regarded as one of the most influential yoga teachers of the 20th century and is credited with the revival of hatha yoga.

Learned and studied Yoga from his father in prior stages later studied Yoga from yoga master Sri Babu Bhagavan Das and passed the Samkhya Yoga Examination of Patna. Many of Krishnamacharya’s instructors recognized his outstanding abilities in the study and practice of yoga and supported his progress. Some asked that he teach their children. Thus the journey of his Yoga file began at very young age and he become the most influential Yoga teacher. Here is also a  rare video of Sri Krishnamacharya performing Yoga.


Sri BKS Iyengar

Born on 14th Dec 1918 as Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja (BKS) Iyengar had a family with teaching background. At a young age of 16 he was introduced to his Yoga guru and you can guess him. Of-course the Father of Modern Day yoga, Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya.

Iyengar guruji found the meaning of the yoga sutras by his practical search and regular practice of yoga. Thus, he has helped all to experience the wisdom of the yoga sutras. His style of teaching yoga is called “Iyengar Yoga” and is now being followed by certified teachers across the world.

“Live happily and die majestically” was his way of life and preaching to everyone along with Yoga.  Here is an old but significant Yoga video of Guruji Iyengar while teaching and practicing the Samadhi- last from the Ashtang Yoga at age of 59. Hard to believe right ?

 


A salute to their contribution and preaching of Yoga in whole world. This Teacher-Student combo paved a path for modern and appeasing Yoga.
