Tensions over Padmavati escalate

Karni Sena VS Padmavati gets worse

Padmavati and Bollywood

Padmavati, also known as Padmini, was an Indian queen in the 13th-14th century. She was first mentioned in Padmavat, a fictionalized poem. It was written by Muhammad Jayasi. Bansali decided to make a movie about her. The Rajputs started to intervene by blaming the movie makers for distorting history.

The Rajput Karni Sena burnt down posters and attacked the sets. All this because they blamed Bansali for tarnishing the image of Rani Padmini. They consolidated this by saying that the movie shows Padmini having an affair with Alaudin Khilji.

Why was Deepika compared to Surpanakha?

The controversy over Deepika starring ‘Padmavati’ has been getting thicker over the weeks. Karni Sena, the group who started it all, threatened Deepika by saying, “Rajputs never raise their hands on women. But if need be, we will do to Deepika Padukone what Lakshman did to Surpanakha.” For those who are not familiar with the epic, Lakshman cuts Raavan’s sister, Surpanakha’s, nose.

This threat came only days after Deepika gave a statement about the controversy. She retaliated that the movie stars, and makers, are only answerable to the censor board. She also said that nothing could stop the release of the movie. Karni Sena, however, took this as a challenge.

December 1

The film was scheduled to release on December 1st. However, Lokendra Singh Kalvi, a Karni Sena member, warned, “We will gather in lakhs, our ancestors wrote history with blood, we will not let anyone blacken it…”. They said they would declare a national bandh on the date.

Bansali’s threat

Times Now did an exclusive sting on Karni Sena’s members. The reporter asked them if the violence was necessary. They said they would go to Mumbai and behead Bansali if necessary. They are ready to do anything to stop the release of the film.

A BJP office holder also announced a 10 cr reward for the same, and the promises to look after the family of whoever does so.
