Sharp Aquos R2 Compact with two notches, Snapdragon 845 Launched

Sharp has announced its latest Aquos R2 Compact flagship phone

which is the successor of Sharp Aquos R Compact that was launched in last year. Unlike the previous one, the new handset comes with the trend of display notches, and goes one step further, by incorporating two notches -one waterdrop-shaped notch is on top of the display housing the camera sensor, while a slightly wider notch sits at the bottom, housing the fingerprint scanner.
The key selling point of the handset is it packs the latest Snapdragon 845 SoC, offers 5.2-inch of the display, 64GB of inbuilt storage, and is waterproof and dustproof as well.


The price of new Sharp Aquos R2 is yet to be revealed where it sales confirmed to begin in mid-January of coming year. This handset is exclusively available in Japan. The phone is available in three colour variants and is Smoky Green, Deep White and Pure Black.

Features and Specifications

The eye-catchy feature in this handset is all about housing dual notches where its predecessor had a large chin at the bottom to house the fingerprint scanner. The smartphones sports an aluminum frame, power and volume buttons are situated on the right edge, and there’s a single camera set up at the front and back of the smartphone.

On Display, the Sharp Aquos R2 Compact features a 5.2-inch full-HD+ (1080×2280 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and 2.5D tempered glass protection. Under the hood, It is armed by the Snapdragon 845 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM. Internal storage is at 64GB with microSD slot support for further expansion of up to 512GB.

On imaging duties, the handset includes a 22.6-megapixel rear with a sensor with high-speed autofocus, f/1.9 aperture, OIS, and electronic handshake correction as well. At the front, there is an 8-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture.

The smartphone ticks all the day by a 2,500mAh battery and runs on Android 9 Pie OS that is preinstalled on the device. The Japanese manufacturer has included its own version of EMOPA AI voice-assistant on the R2 Aquos Compact.

In terms of connectivity, The device includes 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and 3.5mm audio jack.
