The NFL kneelers continue, new rules put in place
The National Football League (NFL) is an American football league. It has 32 teams, which is divided between the National Football Conference (NFC), and the American Football Conference (AFC). The NFL is one of the biggest football leagues in the world.
The kneelers are now required to stand when the national anthem is playing. Interestingly, a few weeks ago, this wasn’t their concern.
On Sunday, some of the players continued to kneel during the national anthem, and as a consequence disrespected it and along with it, disrespected America as a nation. Donald Trump has expressed dissent over how the organization is handling the protests.
ESPN reported that, safeties Eric and Adrian, line-backers Dekoda and Eli, receiver Marquise, defensive Arik, and the cornerback, Williams, of ‘San Francisco 49ers’ kneeled down during the anthem this Sunday.
Football fans have walked out of stadiums, boo-ed players of taking to the knee, burned their jerseys, and took to social media to show their discontent. On TV, NFL readings reached a record low and dropped almost 17 percent from the last week. NFL football is now the least favourite sport in America. It’s come to notice that taxpayers pay 70 percent of the cost that goes into maintaining the teams and the stadiums. It’s no surprise, then, that the public didn’t react very well to the teams disrespecting their flag and national anthem.
Now that the teams are being asked to stand during the national anthem, most Americans wonder if it’s because the strike now affects their pay-checks. Families of war heroes expressed great dissent over the NFL’s actions, as these actions happened as they were seeing away their fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters off to defend the country. They questioned whether it was right to insult the same country that houses and defends them.
