History Of Halloween: The Visit Of Spirits Of Dead To The Town

Halloween or Hallowe’en which is also known as Allhalloween or All Hallows’ Eve or All Saints’ Eve is an annual celebration highly celebrated in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows’ Day. It’s a three-day observance of Allhallowtide and dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints, martyrs, and all the faithful who have departed.

With time the concept of Halloween might have completely changed but the enthusiasm and excitement for the celebration are still the same.

As Halloween Is Around The Corner i.e., on the evening of 31st October, So Let’s Known The History behind Halloween:

The harvest festival Celtic or Gaelic festival Samhain is considered as the originator of Halloween celebration. Samhain was observed nearly 2000 years ago and not on 31st October instead of on 1 November. It was believed that on the day of Samhain, the spirits of the dead would come over again and visited the town. To enjoy the festival, the living also wears costumes of the dead. Mostly, Celtic (who were considered the worshippers of God) is said to visit their living families.

‘Superstitions associated with Halloween’- Earlier, people used to play a game that helps a woman find her future husband and even on the day of Halloween.

‘Costumes’- The concept of dressing has also been changed as earlier people wore ghost masks but now people dress up more like witches and similar things.

Whatever the way to celebrate Halloween but it is too much fun as it includes guising, decorating, lighting bonfires, converting pumpkins into lamps, playing pranks and apple trick or treat game.
