Glory of 16 years- of a 60 days War #OperationVijay- Vijay Diwas

“Either I will come back after hoisting the Tricolor , or I will come back wrapped in it, but I will be back for sure !”

Words carry feelings and nostalgic mind of a human can feel the gravity of sentences even if read. The above words were of Captain Vikram Batra, the war hero and night mare for enemies. Today on 26th July back in 1999 India won the Kargil war, #OperationVijay and so we also call this day as Vijay Diwas. A war between two nations claimed nearly thousand lives from both the countries. India lost its 527 brave sons to reclaim the enemy intrusions. The 60 days of bloody war ended and Tricolor was waving again, all because of the martyrs of Kargil War.

On 01 June 1999, his unit proceeded to the Kargil Sector on the eruption of a war-like situation in Kargil, Drass and Batalik sub-sectors from where he was sent along with his company on the first strategic and daring operation to recapture the first peak of utmost importance – Point 5140, which was at an altitude of 17,000 feet. Upon reaching Point 5140, leading a company of troops, he encountered the commander of the Pakistani-backed terrorists on radio. The enemy commander challenged him by saying, “Why have you come ‘Shershah’ , you will not go back.” Captain Batra, being the last person to back away from a fight, replied, “We shall see within one hour, who remains on the top.” In a short while Captain Batra and his company of troops killed eight enemy soldiers and more importantly captured a heavy anti-aircraft machine gun, neutralising the advantageous peak. Mission Point 5140 was a success!

The winning spree for captain went on, till he re-captured Point 4875. This memory of war, of captain Vikram Batra and one of his last ever video we got to see is really spine chilling !

His last words were, “Jai Mata Di!” and even before succumbing to his injuries he killed 5 enemy soldiers glorifying his nickname, Shershah– given to him by his commanding officers.

Here is also the list of the men who became martyrs in this course of 60 days who we must remember on this very day which we celebrate all due to their sacrifice and valor.
